Pickeral (Walleye) Fishing

Pickeral or also called Walleye is one of the best fish to eat in the Lake Erie or even the Detroit River even though it is polluted. You can catch this species of fish really anyway, but their is a couple of specific ways of catching them, one is Jigging and the other is Pickeral Rig fishing. Jigging is the popular way of catching this kind of fish. To jig you have to tie a jig head to your line, that consists of a ball like hook with an painted eye on it. You could use live bait on the end but most prefer plastic minnows to attract them. Once you get your line ready you can now start jigging. To do that you have to drop your line in the water until the jig head hits the bottom of the lake or river. Once thats done you just constently jerk the line up and down. Trust me you will feel the tug once you catch the fish. The other method Pickeral Rig Fishing is an easy way to catch them too. A pickeral rig consists of 2 hooks and a sinker. A sinker is a weight that you attach at the bottom of the rig so that the rig is on the bottom of the lake or river. You do not use any plastic minnow or bait for this, you always use live bait, either worms or minnows, even little frogs. Once you hooked on the bait and the sinker you can cast out the rig into the water. The rig should hit the bottom. If you want to know if a fish is on your line you will always look at the tip of your rod. If its jerking, then you have a fish. Reel it in! Remember, if you want to eat this fish make shure you clean it properly, this fish consists of alot of small bones. If you need anymore tips or information on Pickeral Fishing. Comment!
